The rechargeable batteries will have shorter life spans from regular use. In order to optimise the use of these, one must read the instruction manual carefully.
If the wheelchair has a charger fit onto its board, then it also needs to be checked for malfunction regularly. This also can be replaced by the user himself/herself. The joystick parts that are easily accessed by the user might need a replacement. One can check for its working regularly. Whenever a part is malfunctioning, and one is doubtful about replacing it, then it is best to call for professional help. The other accessories that may need frequent replacement are the seat belts, the seat cushion, footrests, armrests, or padding for the calves, handles etc. One need not have all of these parts for spares, but one must be careful enough to look for the signs of wear and tear and be prepared. The spare batteries are very necessary though.
The maintenance of the motors is also very important for smooth functioning of the wheelchair. The gearboxes and parts involving the breaking system of the wheelchairs also must be serviced regularly by a professional. Handling the wheelchair gently and following general servicing methods like oiling the wheels, etc. may help in keeping the wheelchair in good condition.
